I spoke to Jimmy and told him what I’d read on the internet about premature ejaculation treatment and he agreed that the problem does indeed sound like premature ejaculation. I’m so proud of him for talking to me about this and pleased that he is willing to try to do something about this issue which is frustrating for both of us.
It appears from my internet research that premature ejaculation is thought to be most commonly caused by a mixture of physical and psychological issues. The difficult part for men today is that many women have high expectations for their partners to be great sexual performers.
Although it is a really common problem many men are too embarrassed to talk about ways to cure premature ejaculation, even with their doctor. The stigma associated with premature ejaculation (that the man is somehow less of a man) is not good because there are many treatments available today that can help delay premature ejaculation. It is because of this that I am so pleased that Jimmy is willing to discuss the issue with me. I do feel, in situations where couples are not able to talk and the problem continues for many years, I can see that it could become a real issue in a relationship.
Experts recommend the best way of treating premature ejaculation is to firstly find out if there is a physical reason why a man is climaxing too soon. Treatment for biological issues such as erectile dysfunction and abnormal hormone levels may well prevent the problem
Interestingly, most doctors still recommend therapy and education about techniques as the best premature ejaculation treatment even if there is a known biological cause.
Sexual therapy is recommended for men who suffer from premature ejaculation. Sexual therapists can suggest techniques to delay ejaculations which might include masturbation an hour or so before sex so it is easier to ejaculate later during intercourse, taking part in other sexual activities to reduce the pressure to perform (ie. avoiding intercourse) and using specific techniques to ‘desensitize’ the penis are some suggestions.
Some doctors also recommend counselling or psychotherapy to help men cure premature ejaculation. This enables couples to work through any problems and can help reduce any anxiety that can often be a cause of premature ejaculation.
I will speak to Jimmy gain to tell him what I have read – not sure he’ll be keen on a visit to the GP after it took so long for him to talk to me....
